Tips and Advice

One thing to remember when selling a car is the old phrase: ‘Time is Money!’ This means that the longer you keep the car you don’t want, the more money you spend on keeping it running, insurance and it could potentially come down in price whilst you are waiting for the sale. It is therefore important that you sell your unwanted used car as quickly as possible, and to do this, you may need to invest a bit of your own money to ensure that your bargain reaches as many potential customers as possible.

Of course it is still worth using all the free methods at your disposal to market and sell your car, for example, it is definitely worth making a little ‘for sale’ sign to put in your window which will be visible to any by passers who may be interested or know someone who is. However, the fact of the matter is that this method does not isolate or enter your targeted market, it is more a game of luck, hoping that someone who wants a second hand car walks past is a long shot in itself, let alone someone who wants that particular car. On the other hand, it is free and it could work for you so it is always worth a shot. Here is a template you can use to make your sign:

As well as the old sign in the window trick you can also place an ad in your local paper, as they always have a used car section and many people use it. This way you are actively seeking out your target audience and increasing your chancer tenfold of selling your car, increased chances usually means a quicker sale. Other than these ‘old school’ methods of marketing your car, you can also get technological and put your car on a number of websites which will place your car in a database so that anyone looking for a second hand car similar to yours will see it. In this day and age many people use the internet when looking for a second hand car so it makes a whole lot of sense to put your car advert in a place where people will be looking for it. It is usually relatively cheap to put your car on such sites, and it is a further measure you should take if you want to sell your car quick! Whatever you do make sure you give all the necessary details in your advert and make sure it is as accurate as possible as if you hide something it could come back to bite you down the line. If you are putting the car you wish to sell on the internet then make sure you include a photo (a few if possible) as many people will ignore any adverts which do not include a visual aid.
